This is a highly specialised doctor who initially trains as a Paediatrician and then goes on to specialise in children's kidney and urine problems.

This is in contrast to a ‘Nephrologist’ who is an adult’s doctor specialised in adult nephrology (kidney conditions), and also learns about children’s kidneys as a part of it.

YES… Like all of us, children also have two kidneys.

These are also prone to illnesses some of which might be exclusively seen in childhood.

  • Symptoms of kidney diseases could be obvious like red urine, burning sensation while passing urine, swelling over the entire body, excessive or decreased urination, bedwetting in older children etc.
  • However, a lot of them have non-specific symptoms like poor growth, low hemoglobin, bony deformities.
  • Some of them may be silent for a long time before they come to medical attention.
